About Chicalba Bagpiping
Dave Johnston has been playing the bagpipes for over 40 years and learned as a child through the Williamwood Pipe Band in Glasgow, Scotland.
Dave played with Williamwood for 23 years. He was one of the founding partners of the highly successful bagpiping business Piping Services Scotland, which still handles approximately 1,500 weddings per year. After moving to Chicago in 2005 Dave joined the renowned Chicago Caledonian Pipe Band.
Dave has been teaching for over 35 years both privately and within pipe band structures. His students come from all walks of life including high school students, police officers, and fire fighters, all with a passion for learning the great art of piping. Dave is proud to be a full time instructor for the Pipes & Drums of the Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department Pipes & Drums and Northern Illinois Pipes & Drums.
Dave Johnston has played all over the world at festivals, concerts and a variety of private functions. He has performed at events in Canada, Spain, Denmark, Czech Republic and Germany, shows in Denmark, France, Norway, Chicago, San Jose, California and other numerous functions in Ireland, England, Wales, Turkey and New York. It is no wonder that he is a much-admired bagpiper worldwide!
Dave has provided musicians for organizations such as the Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, American Cancer Society, United Service Organizations (USO) (Military Veterans), the Illinois Saint Andrew Society, University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Midwestern University and the National Safety Council.
It is no easy feat to have a strong alliance with such experienced specialized performers, but Dave always strives to offer the best bagpipers for these highly respected organizations and businesses.
Dave provides professional bagpiping services, both solo and with other pipers in the greater Chicagoland area.
