Chicalba Bagpiping Services offers systematic instruction to anyone over the age of 10 years old, who has a genuine interest in learning the art of Bagpiping. This woodwind instrument is rooted in history and tradition. Being an experienced piper and instructor himself, Dave Johnston loves to pass his knowledge and skills down to his students.
Chicalba will show you how to reach your playing goals while following the proper steps and offering steady support. Guidance is provided through formal lessons and proven learning methods for application, practice and results. Our valuable instruction can carry learners through bagpipe selection, care, set-up, patience, and eventually playing the Highland bagpipe.
Many students choose one-to-one lessons, which normally take place in the instructor’s home, however alternative arrangements are available if needed.
All students will have an initial payment of between $80 and $100, depending on the cost of the necessary materials and practice instrument from the supplier. This pays for the chanter, all the required learning tools and exercise sheets provided by Chicalba Bagpiping Services. Students will also receive access to online videos and supplementary, written notes.
Under 18’s pay $35 / hour for lessons ($20 for 1/2 hour lessons)
Over 18’s pay $40 / hour for lessons ($30 for 1/2 hour lessons)
Chicalba Bagpiping Services also has experience working with larger groups. Chicalba currently works with the Chicago Fire Department Pipe Band, the Pipes & Drums of the Chicago Police Department, Northern Illinois Pipes & Drums, and The Emerald Society Pipe Band.
